Finally! Fox Searchlight just announced a Ramones biopic, a feature film that will chronicle the seminal punk band’s turbulent career. Ramones has always been one of my favorite bands, so I’m super excited about this.
Here’s the big question: Who should they cast? Who should be the next Joey Ramone? Leave your answer in the comments.

You would think Godzilla destroying Tokyo was enough to turn the Japanese against giant monsters. Nope! Instead, they turned their greatest fear into a tourist attraction — a 50 ton rendition of ’60s cartoon hero Testujin.

I’m loving this new flickr set from Brian Moore, which reimagines classic American propaganda posters for a new generation of civil unrest. Couldn’t be more relevant with everything going on in Iran. The full set is after the jump.

Seems like Quidditch without broom flying is a lot like mild rugby. Above, a handful of athletic hipsters attempt to recreate Harry Potter’s favorite sport at Brooklyn’s McCarren Park on a muddy day.

Costume-clad hipsters braved the rain this weekend to attend the annual Mermaid Parade, a Coney Island tradition since 1983. Despite the bad weather, it seems like everyone had a great time. More pics under the cut.

Seems like the larger than life sculpture inspired by the popular anime series Gundam has another amazing feature — lights. Above, a photo of the Tokyo skyline, lit up by the enormous figure. More pictures at Pink Tentacle.

A group of like minded Obama supporters have collectively declared today as National Fist Bump day, a tribute to the casual hand gesture seen above. Howie Mandel must love this.

While you were off eating barbecue this weekend, 10,000 Brits were competing in the Gloucestershire ‘Cheese Rolling and Wake,’ a dangerous race in which participants tumble down a hill for…cheese. Believe it or not, the annual tradition has been around for hundreds of years, responsible for thousands of broken bones. Check out video and pics from the event over on The Sun.

Have any trouble cramming on to the train this morning? I just unearthed the 2008 statistics for subway ridership by station, and believe me, your commute could have been worse. Where has this been all my life? Oh yeah — on the MTA website, buried underneath the weekly notice about how messed up the G train is. After sorting through the stats, some interesting facts and patterns emerged:
* The least-used station in the entire system is, unsurprisingly, the northbound station at Aqueduct Racetrack, which might as well be on Pluto. The outpost, only open on race days, serves a whopping 30,000 patrons per year. That’s roughly how many people enter Times Square station every 4 hours.
* On a typical weekday, the Wall Street stop services 8.3 times more people than it does on a typical Saturday or Sunday. All that talk about investment bankers working weekends? Bull shit.

In honor of Truman Capote’s legendary Black & White Ball of 1966, NYC art collective Kostume Kult organized an updated, more psychedelic version last week — the Black & Light Ball. Part rave, part art exhibit, the event lured Manhattan’s most creative. Photos (more under the cut) by AlienSwede.

Combine the athleticism of bike racing and the goofiness of office shenanigans and you’ve got the latest German sports craze. Above, a racer wipes out — the chair must have been from Staples. For more pictures, head over to Asylum.

Playing For Change, an organization dedicated to promoting global collaboration through music, put together this rendition of Ben E. Kings “Stand By Me” by filming musicians from different cultures singing the tune in their own style. Sure to put a smile on your face.
